How do I detect the initial sourcecode of a DLL? [duplicate]

This question already has an answer here:

I have this DLL file from a programmer I cannot contact anymore, but I need to know which coding he used so I can try to decompile.

I’ve tried JetBrains dotPeek, but didn’t succeed, so it’s not .NET. Probably it’s C or C++, but before leaving for an eternity of trying different decompilers (if even possible) I’d like to know if you can detect the initial coding by inspecting the DLL.

Thanks inadvance.
Dennis
